Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outdoors at Millcreek Canyon in Salt Lake City, Utah,US.

Time

It was taken at the afternoon.

Lighting

There were a few clouds which slightly blocked the sun giving the picture a soft touch.

Equipment

I took this photo with my Nikon D5500 and 85mm 1.8G lens.

Inspiration

I was at an Instameet organized by Arvo. We had a lot of other models and photographers with us. I was taking a photo of another model when I saw Hannah (the one in the photo) looking at the wood cabin. I took the opportunity and captured a photo of her. The photo was more of a lucky shot rather than a pre-planned one. What I love about it is the emotion captured in this photo.

Editing

I tweaked the eyes by dodging and burning and then converted the photo into Black and White.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Nikon D5500 and Nikon 500 along with my 85mm 1.8G and 50mm 1.8G lens.

Feedback

My advice would be to keep taking pictures. Sometimes pictures can amaze you when you least expect it. Be aware of your surroundings while taking the picture. Always shoot with lowest possible f-stop to get the subject focused more clearly. Focus on the eyes of a subject, it will help a lot in taking portrait pictures.
