Location
I took this photo in a public park. It is normally a busy park, but there was 4 feet of snow there that day from the night before. I had to walk to each spot I wanted the model to stand so that she could actually get there. The snow was way over her boots and she was just wearing tights. When we were finished my pants were matted with snow and I couldn't bend my knees until I got in the car to heat my pants up.Time
It was so cold that winter that I wanted to go as close as I could to the heat of the day without fighting with the light. Luckily it was over cast so we snuck out a little later than planned and got there around 10:30am. Even still it was - 20 degrees out.Lighting
I was able to get away with not using any lighting other than the sun and a white reflector. It really was the perfect day for photos if it wasn't for the cold.Equipment
This was shot with a Cannon T5i with a 50mm lens. I used a tripod to capture multiple images to put together in post. I set the camera on a timer so I could use the reflector to reflect light as well as use it as a fan.Inspiration
I love the color red and it stands out so much on white. I've seen many other photographers make images with a red headed model on a white background, but not many in the snow.Editing
There was quite a bit of post processing for this image. I pieced together 5 images to get the look I wanted. Most of these image pieces were from the dress to make it seem like it was flowing in the wind more. I also changed the lipstick color the model from purple to deep red.In my camera bag
I like to go as simple as possible. I have a backup battery, an extra memory card, my camera body attached to a 50mm lens and a flash. I also throw in a lens cleaning cloth because who wants to have a dirty lens? If I am traveling far I will include an extra lens.Feedback
It probably won't happen in one capture. I applaud those who try and achieve it. Use a tripod in one spot so that as you take the images you can cut and paste instead of having to transform the images to get them to fit just right.
