Location
This photo was taken in my home studio in Utah. It was taken after a long and stressful day. My home studio is in the corner of the garage where I can leave out my equipment without having to put down and set it up all the time.Time
This image was taken late in the day after work at a 9-5. It was probably around 7pm and already dark outside. It was almost a solemn day as there weren't any bugs out yet making their music.Lighting
I wanted this image to be a little harsh to draw viewers in. I used a single light on the side so that half of the face was in shadow.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon T5i and the kit lens 18-55mm. The single light was a Fovitec 20" x 28" softbox. A tripod and a remote were also used.Inspiration
I wanted to take a second and show my frustration with everything around me. The struggle of wearing a mask and having several people around me pass away from Covid-19. I know I wasn't the only one feeling the stress of the situation. I really wanted to show people that life is hard, but there are others with you that understand.Editing
Simple post-processing was used. The image was converted to black and white in photoshop. The tear on the side of the face was also transformed to look more realistic than the original photo. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon T5i in the bag as my trusty sidekick. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My nifty 50 as well my backup 18-55mm kit lens. I've got two charged batteries, two extra memory cards as well as my tripod, cleaning supplies, and two speed lights.Feedback
Take a leap even if you don't know exactly how to capture something. With digital cameras, you can capture thousands of images and learn from your mistakes or your successes. Emotion also is better portrayed when you are already in that state of mind.
