One of the early signs that Summer has arrived in New Zealand, is the heralding change in colour from every shade of green, to patches of burnished red then highlighting the tree canopy.
The Rata Tree has two distinct variations, the Southern Rata grows from a seedling from the forest floor, but the Northern Rata starts life as epiphyte seedling in a host tree. The roots then track down the trunk of the host tree until its roots finally enclose around it.
