Location
Taken at Arundel wetlands on a boat tour. it was quiet and I knew the boat operator, so we went Kingfisher hunting, luckily it was just 2 of us on the boat, we managed to get within 6ft of the Kingfisher, I managed to get about 10 shots before it flew away.Time
Taken just after lunch about 13:30Lighting
Lighting was good a little overcast which worked in my favour.Equipment
handheld with camera set initially on P (automatic) then changed to shutter priority. I always set to P as its offers the best chance of a lucky shot.Inspiration
I have been after the Kingfisher for months maybe years but it was always just out of reach even with a big lens.Editing
A litte post processing. adjusted shadows and highlights, as shot in RAW a bit of sharpness and a crop.In my camera bag
Depends on what I am looking to capture, if walking I like to travel light, Sony a7rmk3 and a 24-240, otherwise I take equipment to help achieve desired shot, maybe a 10-24 wide angle or 100-400 with a 2x extender.Feedback
For anyone struggling with birds, learn better field craft and be patient, if you see a bird that you want to capture, set up equipment, take a shot and move one or 2 steps, keep repeating until subject flies away, using that technique I have been able to get within 3 feet of my subject, also birds are creatures of habit and will normally return to a spot/perch, find that spot and wait for them.
