Location
The Balcón de Europa is, without doubt, Nerja’s most iconic landmark and the focal point of the town. Everyone who visits Nerja eventually makes their way to the Balcón de Europa. King Alfonso XII is credited with having given the viewpoint its name. While inspecting the damage caused by a huge earthquake during a formal visit in 1885, he is said to have stood on the Balcón and been so enthralled with the view that he exclaimed, “This is the Balcony of Europe.”Time

Nerja has been a source of inspiration for expatriate writers and artists to me it is a very interesting and beautiful place and a lot of effort has gone into the aesthetic the whole town photographs as well as night as it does in the day - here I have just used the light provided by the sodium street lightsEquipment

The town was also the main setting for the filming of Verano Azul, a popular Spanish television series later exported to several countries, a replica of the boat the featured in the series can be found in a park of the same name (as the series), near the centre of town. Coupled with fact that the Balcón area was originally known as La Batería, a reference to the gun battery which existed there in a fortified tower. This emplacement and a similar tower nearby were destroyed during the Peninsular War. In May 1812, the British vessels Hyacinth, Termagant and Basilisk supported Spanish guerrillas on the coast of Granada, against the French. On 20 May, Termagant or Hyacinth opened fire and the forts were destroyed. Two rusty guns positioned at the end of the Balcón are reminders of these violent times. The huge lumps of rock, the remains of La Batería, visible in the sea at the end of the Balcón, are further evidence of this action. Made Neja somewhere I wanted to photograph and explore - so worth a visit this areaEditing

Differing light levels make night photography a challenging yet rewarding subject. The best results certainly don't require specialized equipment, like high end expensive cameras, tripods, cable releases and flashguns. After sunset, the everyday world is magically transformed, and city buildings, fireworks, thunderstorms and the northern lights all become popular subjects. It's all about being brave switching to manual mode - thinking about the relationship triangle ISO, shutter speed and aperture settings not only control the amount of light entering your camera, but also give you the ability to inject some of your own personality into the images you create. Once you are confident the technical skills required for exposure control, you can begin to exploit many of the creative aspects these settings influence, giving you the freedom to express the visions in your mind's eye with clarity while adding your own unique interpretation to your subject matter of choice.
