Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a foggy day in Rice Lake, North Vancouver. Rice Lake is a beautiful conservation area in British Columbia, Canada. It his home to many species of birds and ducks and fish. There is a main trail that loops around the entire lake.

Time

I took this in the mid-afternoon around 3pm. It was a relatively foggy day in June. The sky was in the process of cleaning up so the lighting was near perfect.

Lighting

I love photos that include reflections and interesting uses of light so I thought the reflection of the lake would add to the photo. I also like the use of silhouettes which worked out really welll in this capture.

Equipment

I used a 4.5 ft tripod, with a standard 18-55mm lens, and there was no flash. At the time this photo was taken I used a Canon Rebel T5.

Inspiration

As my girlfriend and I were walking along the trail I noticed how perfect the lighting was and how nice the water looked. It wasn't windy at all so the water was at a standstill.

Editing

I used Lightroom to tone down the brightness in some areas and enhance the colours.

In my camera bag

Whenever I am going to shoot I always bring my tripod, a Canon 70-200mm IS L series lens, and an 18-55mm lens. I also bring a lens filter.

Feedback

I would say to make sure the exposure isn't on too long as it'll be too bright, and ensure the subjects aren't moving too much to reduce blur. Also make sure the ISO isn't too high or else there will be noise in the photo.
