Not all the ice over the beach was solid and my foot went right through and it was deep enough to submerge my whole foot in water. I had just arrived and wasn't leaving without the shot. The wind was gusting to about 40 km-h and was relentless. Even with a hat, hood, and weather proof gloves. My face and ears were frozen within a couple of minutes. Lake effect cold really is no joke. But at the end of it all, I'd do it all over again. Sometimes you only get one chance to get the shot and you need to do what it takes to make it happen.
