The photo was taken at Ferry Terminal in San Marco (Giardinett) DX featuring beautiful Santa Maria della Salute, a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located at Punta della Dogana in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the city of Venice, Italy. I am a self taught amateur photographer, so every photo is pretty much a new learning for me.Time
This is one of my favourite images. I remember my Italian holidays during Christmas break it was a perfect day for long walk on the Grand Canal seeing marvellous architectural masterpieces built sometime in 14th century and learning about their history. It was one of the best cold afternoon with very less people in town due to holidays, walking around in the cold and looking out towards water while gondolas were swinging in the waves and birds were chirping, Santa Maria della Salute caught my eyes. It was taken on December 25, 2016 at 3:00 PMLighting
I wanted this image to to draw the viewer into a scene in a story and make them feel like they were present in the place. There was some beautiful natural set up that day with partly cloudy day and setting down winter sun threw just enough light on the Salute that it started glowing.Equipment
I do not have any big DLR or point and shoot camera, so I rely on my mobile phones to capture as many moments possible. This was shot on my Samsung Galaxy S7 mobile phone(SM-G930F), with 17000/10000 aperture and shutter speed of 4/10000, Focal Length of 420/100. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I generally look at the place and feels like I don’t want to move away from that set up and the time should just stop, that’s when I capture those moments in my camera. This was a perfect set up of beautiful architecture, water, gondola, shade of yellow in a blue sky, beauty of this place can’t be summarised in words hence captured in a photo and shared.Editing
As my mobile phone, Samsung Galaxy is my camera unlike other photographers carrying DSLR with different zoom lenses, yes I do post processing to add little bit of life to the photo and strengthen some of the colours and increase contrast a little. I use application names “Snapseed” it’s Google mobile application helps you improve your images. In my camera bag
The first thing I always pack is my mobile phone and extra battery to support the high battery demand when you are clicking multiple photos. I like my Samsung phone, it gives me faith in the quality and robustness.Feedback
One of the major features of a landscape photographer is to have patience and wait for the right time, which is essential in a place like this. Be prepared for the diversity of landscapes, colors and situations. Dawn and dusk are key moments, however daylight conditions, lenticular clouds and wind creates atmospheres as it happens. Diversify, have patience and plan ahead. The weather can change abruptly depending on the day, you can have sun, wind or clouds, all in one day. So have patience and get the right shot.
