Location
In January, summer, at Castle Point, Wairarapa, New Zealand.Time
Afternoon.Lighting
Afternoon timing and the heavily textured cloud cover had softened the light a little, allowing plenty of detail to come through.Equipment
A Nikon D750, a 24-120 F4 lens. This image is a stitch of two landscape shots, zoom setting was 24mm, ISO 100, F20 and shutter 1/125 sec.Inspiration
The location of the lighthouse out from the coast lived up to the name ‘Castle Point’. The coastal rock formations and moody cloud cover added to this dramatic scene.Editing
Some work in Camera RAW on high and low lighting to even things out so all the beautiful details and texture could be seen better. In my camera bag
I love the mountains, so as little as possible - at present a Nikon D750 camera body, a Nikkor 24-120 small zoom and the 55-300 bigger zoom, a spare battery and beaten up lightweight tripod - good for hiking. If I'm going for a summit then it's even less - a compact Lumix TZ220 with mirrorless through the lens digital view finder, full manual operation and RAW file capture - absolutely great when you still want to control your photography but need to keep moving and can't afford to have stuff hanging off you.Feedback
Don’t constrain yourself to a standard 3:2 format. In a case like this a wider more panoramic format (enabled by stitching images) better captures the feeling of being there.
