Cicada shells vertical on a tree trunk. taken 8-08-10..These were all over the trees in positions like this!
I wish to thank BEASTMASTER for some wonderful information on these.
These are immature Cicada shells. They live many years underground, then emerge at night, climb trees and branches. Then the cicada cuticle hardens. Once that happens the cicada emerge from it, pump blood into their wrinkled wings to make them strong and straight, then fly off to find mates.

Well, its a great macro, but its also hilarious with your perfect title. So they get it on, then move on, and leave their exoskeletons behind? Crazy.
