THIS is RED BELLIED woodpecker..NOT a RED HEADED woodpecker is mostly black on its back with BIG white wing patches..so they look a lot different. The same pair may nest in the same tree year after year BUT make a new cavity each year using the fine wood chips from excavating for the nest.Making the most recent just below the one before it. They may have 2 - 6 eggs for up to 3 broods.

Nicely captured. Riddle me this, why this bird is named REd Bellied, as there is no red on its belly?

Wonderful capture!! There is a Red Headed Woodpecker in the woods behind my condo. I have seen him, but too far and too fast to capture him!

fabulous. I like how you put your name on the feeder. I just saw one of those feeders on clearance and had no idea what would go in it as regular bird feel would fall out! Now I could kick myself of course that I didn't get it. Back to the photo. You really got a good shot all the way around on this! look at the eye! and to me this bird is eating and swinging at the same time..I really like this.. hope you get a feature!

Why thank you VERY much for your CC! And hope for the feature..This is my fave feeder..the SAFFLOWER seeds do fall out of the woire but that is all right..that is what the DOVES eat. The easy going doves only eat what falls down..I alwasy scatter some all around too. Blu Jays will eat out of this or off the ground or out the house feeder..they don't care! So get the feeder and don't worry about what drops when you fill it up. Squirrels and doves will gobble it up. This MIGHT be one of my entries in the State Fair this year. Thank you Disney for looking and giving some nice input!
