Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at my local studio that I rent, here in Pompano Beach FL

Time

n/a

Lighting

I lit this shot with a 48" octobox, with a grid on it. I had this on a rolling stand, with a boom arm. I had Breanne lay on the bed. and positioned the light directly in front of her, and shot her from the top portion of her body, off to the side of the light.

Equipment

This was shot with a Sony A7RII with the G Master 85mm, shot at 2.8. I use ISO 100 all the time when I am in the studio, to get the least amount of noise possible. I use Broncolor lights with a battery pack, mounted inside the Broncolor Octobox. I set the power using my light meter for 2.0, but shot at 2.8 so I could get the lighting a little darker to set the sensual mood.

Inspiration

Breanne is a very beautiful model, and I wanted to show off her curves. I love to shoot implied photography. The beauty of a woman is to leave something to the imagination. Shooting implied photography leaves the viewer wondering what's left that they are not able to see.

Editing

This was post processed in Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, and converted to B&W with Silver EFX by the NIK Collection. I color balance all my pictures with Lightroom first. That is basically your digital darkroom, just like a real darkroom was for film back in the day. Once thats done, I bring the photo into Adobe Photoshop. That's where I do all the targeted adjustments. I fixed any skin imperfections first, then I moved onto some tweaks here and there to bring the viewer's eyes to sections of the picture I wanted the most focus on. I also made sure to strengthen her side tattoo quite a bit, because it's one of the main focal point of this picture. Then I converted the picture to B&W with Silver EFX, adding contrast and structure at the same time.

In my camera bag

I always carry my trusted macro. You never know when my model shows up and her eyes are stunning. I use that lens to capture her beauty. I carry the holy trinity at all times(16-35mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm). A flash with radio transmitter, GND filter, and ND filter, and a tripod also.

Feedback

I would say this possible with any model and MUA, that you build a relationship with. You have to build trust in order to have the model let you take these closeups of her curves. I would suggest reaching out to local models that know you in order to achieve this. Sometimes it's an uphill battle, especially at the beginning. But, the more you showcase your work, people will reach out to you. But most of all, make sure to have fun shooting!
