Location
This photo was taken in my favorite park in the world, Central Park, New York City.Time
It was early in the morning, around 5 AM. The snow was still pristine and squicky, there were only a few dog lovers having their morning walk while us, a few photo hunters were searching for some magic.Lighting
Funny enough, I was planning this shot for a while now, and that morning everything that needed to happen just happened. The snow, the fog, the subtle light, and no crowds taking selfies on the bridge.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark IV, with a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens on a tripod using a wireless shutter release.Inspiration
I always wanted a shot of the famous Bow Bridge covered in snow. To most, winter in NYC is something colorful, busy, with lots of lights, and people, but there is this other side of town, that's less visible, quieter, and calming. I think it's one solid proof showing how magical winter can be in NYC.Editing
Usually, as a landscape photographer, I do a lot of editing, like time blending, luminosity masks, and all the rest but this particular shot is plain simple. It was nothing more than a crop, a curve, and ready to be printed on a nice cotton rag paper. In my camera bag
I like to have two configurations based on the means of transportation. A car bag and train bag. The car bag is a 30L Peak Design and it has everything, from a sturdy Induro GIT404L equipped with an FLM 58 ball head to the entire focal length range from 15mm to 600mm and 100mm filter kit from Haida, plus wires and accessories. I'm currently shooting with a Canon R5, so almost all my glass is Canon. Lastly, the train bag is a small Manfrotto sling bag that holds just the essentials, a Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8, the R5, shutter release, and a carbon fiber PeakDesign tripod.Feedback
The key to shooting clean, untouched snow in Central Park is to get there early. Try planning ahead of time. Scouting the area for angles, access, and lighting will help tremendously on the day of shooting. Now that you know what to shoot and how to shoot it, don't forget to bring some warm tea or coffee to sip while pressing the shutter.
