Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken just west of Dodge City Kansas, this day produced some of the most photogenic tornadoes in quite some time!

Time

This was taken in the afternoon probably around 430pm, we spent most of the day waiting and watching the clouds build before supercell thunderstorms erupted and produced this tornado.

Lighting

The lighting changes rapidly when trying to photograph severe weather. It's always a game of cat and mouse trying to find the best shot!

Equipment

Sony A6300 with 18-105mm Lens.

Inspiration

The love of photographing storms and tornadoes.

Editing

I did some lightroom editing to tease out the "updraft" just above the main funnel of the tornado.

In my camera bag

I now have started to learn the Sony A7Rii and have invested quite a bit of time and money into acquiring some lenses and the skills to be able to use the camera effectively. I use the 24-70GM, the 70-300G, the Voigtlander 10mm, and the Batis 18mm

Feedback

During storm chasing sometimes it is better to shoot video (4K) with a nice camera and then grab pictures out of the video at a later time.
