This photograph was taken in Dungeness, East Sussex. The Dungeness estate sits atop a vast, flat expanse of shingle. There is a calm, bleak beauty to the place, almost post apocalyptic. Although there are a few houses on the shingle spit in the form of wooded bungalows and disused railway huts, there is very little else. An enormous power station dominates the view out towards the apex of the spit, and the wreckages of fishing boats and equipment are dotted along the shore. In the above photo, you are looking through and old wooden winch towards the Dungeness estate. I wanted to create a feeling of voyeurism in this image to express how being there felt at the time.
