There is no evidence as to the cause of death of this healthy looking gannet, therefore I submit this image for illustrative purposes. Thousands of sea birds and other marine animals perish every year due to plastic polluting their environment. They either mistake it for food and consume it, or get tangled up in it. the latter is a particular problem for gannets in Grassholm, Pembrokshire. An area that should be a sanctuary, but due to waste discarded by ships has become a death trap. For many animals, coexistence with humans and their negligence is the greatest threat.
