This Tibetan nomad from eastern Tibet (Khampa_
was doing her daily circumambulations around the Buddhist shrine (Stupa-Chorten) carrying her prayer wheel and rosary. She had a large amber amulet on top of her plaited braids and traditional gold and turquoise earrings. Her robe, ( Chuba) a single piece of cloth wrapped around the waist held tight by a string belt supporting a customary 25 cm knife in a sivler decoartive scabbard. Tibetans weaer their traditional robes with their right shoulder and arm exposed. The sleeves are long and reach the knees. The Tibetan wiriting on the plaque behind her is the primary Tibetan Buddhisti mantra ( prayer)
"Om Mani Padme Hum" which translates as "Hail, oh Jewel in the Lotus". A Salutation for their religon's founder, Sakyamuni Buddha
