Location
The photo was shot at the iconic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest just outside Kyoto, a real must see in the area. Not easy to get there if you are traveling alone. Give it enough time, do not rush!Time
This was taken in the early afternoon.Lighting
The light is always low due to the dense bamboos. That is why I shot this with a low shutter speed (1/30) at ISO1600.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D800 and a 14.0-24.00mm f/2.8 lens at 14mm focal length. No flash or tripod were used.Inspiration
The place is amazing, you walk on a clay path sided by a myriad of giant bamboos. You breathe the power of nature and realize how insignificant you are. It is a mystic experience especially if not many tourists are around (difficult). I was particularly struck by the dense network of stems pointing to the sky. This reminded me a lace, and this gave it the title.Editing
I did not any sophisticated post-processing. Only developed the raw file with Photoshop and converted to black and white with Tonality CK.In my camera bag
Usually I do carry a heavy bag with Nikon D800 and a set of three Nikon lenses: 14-24mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm all f/2.8. When needed I also carry a Gitzo tripod.Feedback
I do not have any particular advice. The only thing is be prepared to be amazed and do not feel too anxious to shoot. The spot is obviously over photographed, that is why you should try to represent it in a personal view, maybe an unusual angle or a shallow focus...It is a challenging effort but relax, take your time, and enjoy!
