I was at a Photo Workshop at the San Diego Zoo. At this workshop one of the benefits is that they will bring animals to you. This was takenat one of the patios at the zoo.Time
After a brief orientation at 6:30am we adjourned to the patio outside of classroom to meet this Pygmy Falcon and to learn all about it.Lighting
The lighting at this patio was in a shaded area. The lighting was actually very good for this photo. It allowed for a greter depth of field which gave a very nice bokeh to the picture. There was a slight breeze to help accentuate the feathers.Equipment
My camera for this shot was a Nikon D3200 with a Tamron 16-300mm lens. No tripod was used as I was moving around alot to try and get the best shot.Inspiration
I am a great fan of birds of all types. It is rare to see one of these birds outside of a cage. This pygmy falcon lent itself to taking great photographsEditing
I try and do a little post processing as possible. I like for my photos to look like setting was. I always try and make my photos look like realistic. In my camera bag
Since taking this picture my equipment has changed. I now carry a Nikon D7200 and a D750. My lenses consist of a Tamron 150 to 600, Tamron 90mm macro, Tamron 18-400. My equipment will change dependidng on what I am shooing.Feedback
Trying to capture the essence of a bird is difficult. The best thing is to try and take as many photographs as possible. I believe in tring to keep my distance as this will allow the bird or other animal to act naturally. Just be patient and the animal will give you great opportunities
