Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken when I was new to photography. I decided to spend the day shooting pictures in my backyard. We had feeder setup in the backyard and I decided to sit and wait to see if any hummingbirds would come to the feeder. There was one who kept coming back to feed and this picture is the result of 4 hours trying for the perfect shot.

Time

I was taking the picture in the harsh noon light. Since I was new to digital photography I was trying different settings to see what would work the best.

Lighting

The lighting wasn't the best as it was taken at high noon. I tried to get the best angle with sun off to the side so as not to blow out the shot.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D40 with a 55 to 200 f5.6 Nikkor lense. The picture was kaen being hand held.

Inspiration

I have always been fascinated with Hummingbirds. When I see hummingbirds I always want to take a picture of them in flight, or feeding.

Editing

Since I was new to digital photography I had enrolled in a class that taught Elements. I processed this picture thru Elements 9

In my camera bag

In my bag I now carry a Nikon D750 and my goto lens is a Nikon 24-120 1:4 G lens. I also will carry a Tanrom 100-400 along with a super wide angle. I do have long lens I will take out as is needed.

Feedback

When trying to capture Hummingbirds in flight it tqakes a lot of patience. I would set up and just remain still so thqat the hummingbirds consider me a part of the landscape. Try and watch how they fly and they will always come back to the same area over and over agian.
