This is the view from between 35,000 and 38,000 feet looking east by northeast while heading south by southeast high above the Sierra on the night of a full moon. Ordinarily the full moon would not illuminate even the snowy mountains so much, but between 40,000 and 45,000 feet, there was a layer of clouds that acted as a refractor-reflector that spread this moon's strong light pretty evenly over the entire landscape. This is over Yosemite Nat'l Park, approximately (or Sequoia), and in the distance, one sees a large lake, probably Owens Lake, across the Sierra judging from surrounding mountains and for sure not Lake Tahoe with which I am most familiar (wrong shaped surrounding mountains). No map or other direction was available, and this is the result of 'dead reckoning', but I've traipsed and driven all through these mountains much of my life, though seldom seen like this with a glowing white cover.
