This photo was taken in the garden in southern Germany near Überlingen (Konstanz lake).Time
IT was around 10 in the morning in mid summer.Lighting
It was taken without flash. The sun was out but the flower were in some kind of natural shade provided by the house where the garden was and the trees. So I took advantage of the smooth light that reflected of the house's white wall.Equipment
The shot was taken with a Canon 500D otherwise known as the Rebel T1i. I was experimenting with a new acquired macro filter (big no no, I know) but it has worked well for me so far. The lens was the stander kit lens, an EFs 18-55mm.Inspiration
It was a warm summer morning and that day began with a nice dew on the garden and the lilies were on full bloom. I saw a bunch of fruit flies humming around the lilies in the garden and saw one go into the lily. I came in with the auto focus on but pre held and adjusted the distance to the fruit fly with slight movements of my head, back and forward. Until I gotEditing
I processed the photo with slight contrast enhancement and a bit of extra blacks and sharpening filters just to give the bug a bit more crisp.In my camera bag
I used to go around all the time with my 500D, my filters, the kit lens and a Canon EF 70-300 USM telephoto. I kept the lens and sold the rest, now I have a Canon 6D with an EF 24-105 1:4 L IS USM and nothing else.Feedback
Be patient and choose your battles. Sometimes pictures like this are a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Take your time to watch around and plan ahead. The prey on the photography gods to smile upon you and keep a steady hand. :)
