Location
This was taken at Derwent Water, close to Keswick in the Lake District. I was on holiday early November 2016 mainly for the purpose of Photography.Time
This was taken on the first evening while in The Lakes. The time was about 4pm and the sun was setting behind the hills on the right, no direct light, but some lovely colours in the sky and the water was fairly calm for a reflectionLighting
I would have prefered better light, but as it was the sky and reflection was still pretty good, especially as I had only been there for about 2 hours into the start of my holidayEquipment
I used a Canon 6D, a Canon 17-40L lens, a Gitzo tripod and a Lee Graduated filterInspiration
I was in the area for photography anyway, but considering that I had bad weather for a lot of the week the scene here was a bonus. Less than a mile from where I was staying, I saw the clouds beginning to break, so headed for for the fence, as I knew it was there from a previous visit. I took a few before this one, but the colours and reflection work best with this shot and I was pleased to get a result on the first day there .Editing
I do very little processing, using Lightroom to adust the colour balance, crop to square and a quick curves tweek. Being old fashioned and a previous user of film, getting it right in camera saves work later.In my camera bag

The Lake District is a wonderful place for photography, but can also be frustrating as the weather can change so quickly. Be patient while waiting for light, the when it arrives get a few different shots. Be prepared, with plenty of warm and weatherproof gear and a camera bag that can survive heavy rain. When setting up a scene have a look around for different compositions while waiting for light etc, so the when it comes you have several options.
