My daughter and I had driven to Mexico with forty other kids to work with children in a poverty ridden section of Reynosa, many years ago,

A teenage girl from a nearby neighborhood was playing, when she reached into the bag we had for fruit and pulled out this orange. Within seconds, a small monarch which had been fluttering aimlessly about, suddenly landed without warning on the skin, and tightly, trustingly into one of the teen's fingers.

The girl gasped as we all did, and the air grew silent as we stared unbelievingly at this highly unusual thing. For a full minute the butterfly lingered...

This is one image, I did correct...age had changed the colorimetry of the Ectachrome to a faded ghost of the original, while the fingers of the young Mexican girl went red.

I added the color back warmed the overall look about 15%, which is usually way beyond what I want, and lowered the shadow level, bringing out the chroma of the orange.

Thanks, Kathy! Someone once opined that images tell a story better than a writer...but without the details...it's an isolated image...The girl wasn't even supposed to be there...she was lonely, so came to play with the younger children. My daughter befriended her.
