Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken along the San Marcos River in Texas at Rio Vista Park.

Time

It was was taken in the afternoon. We were passing by San Marcos, Texas and just had to go to Rio Vista Park where we have so many memories of fun times. As I was walking around the park I took photos of different areas of the park.

Lighting

The afternoon sun was the perfect lighting for this picture giving great shadows. I also like the way the sunlight lit up certain areas of the water.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS. The aperture was 63/10, ISO was 100, shutter speed was 1/60, and focal length was 46/1. The lens I used was a Canon EFS55-250mm. I did not use a tripod or flash.

Inspiration

Many years ago when I was in college I spent a lot of time on this river. Many afternoons were spent leisurely floating down the San Marcos in a big tube, taking in the beautiful scenery. I also enjoyed many hours of canoeing on this river. As we were passing by San Marcos, this was one of our stops because it brought back fun memories. I took the pictures to help remind me of those times and how beautiful it is. When I look at this photo I can imagine myself in a canoe or tube going down the river and it makes me smile.

Editing

I didn't do a lot of post processing. I used Photoshop at that time and converted the color photo to black and white. Then I played around with the contrast a little but not much. Other than that I didn't do anything else to it.

In my camera bag

I don't carry much in my bag because I don't like lugging it around. I usually just have my Canon camera, 55-250mm lens and a 18-55mm lens. I also like to carry a small simple point and shoot camera.

Feedback

Go to some of your favorite places and take pictures of the areas that have the most memories for you. Think about taking the pictures from different angles in order to capture different shadows especially if it is outside.
