Location
This was taken on a small table at the end of a short hallway in my home. On a door directly behind it I hung a black tablecloth. I hung small Christmas lights over the tablecloth. There was a long distance between the pitcher and the door.Time
I took this in the early evening. When I turned off the hall lights I didn't want any extra light from nearby windows to effect the shot.Lighting
I also put a string of the lights inside the pitcher which helped create the reflection on the table under the pitcher. the distancebetween the door and the pitcher helped create the "dots" of light. They were at a greater depth of field.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 7D on a tripod with no flash, Canon 24-105 lens, 1/8 sec. at f4.Inspiration
I wanted to create the circles coming out of a coffee cup. I didn't like the way it was lookig so looked around the house for something else. Since I collect antique cut glass I decided to try using the pitcher.Editing
I had to take a few "dots" out. They were falling to the sides of the pitcher. I wanted them to be going in the pitcher. In my camera bag
24-105 Canon lens, 70-200 f4 IS,Tamron 28-75 f 2.8 IF, Canon 580EXII speedlight, and Canon 7DFeedback
You have to play with the F stops to get the lights to blur just right.
