Location
This Photo was taken in Lake Nakuru during one of my safaris in Kenya, in August 2012Time
As usual, not at the best of times. It was taken at 12:03h midday.Lighting
In spite of the time of the day, lighting was good, the bird in the shade. It suddenly appeared among tree branches in a turn of the path. I took the shot quickly, no time to prepare anything. The picture was taken quickly from above.Equipment
I used my old Nikon D700, camera designed in 2008, just 12 Megapixels (a lot at that time), the most solid and resistant I ever had, with the 70-200 mm f/2,8 VR, Nikon zoom lens. Shot metadata: ISO 200, 190.mm, f/2,8,1/2000, Aperture Priority. No tripod, no flash.Inspiration
We were walking by the lake, going up a hill, the Cormoran was down by the lake, among the trees, but not too far. The light reflection on the feathers was very beautiful, I did not hesitate and took the picture quickly, before it moved. Hardly any time to set parameters.Editing
I did very little post processing with Aperture, the Apple programme, discontinued long ago. Nowadays I use Lightroom Classic, also very lightly. I do not use PhotoshopIn my camera bag
In long trips like these, I take two cameras. At the time, it was a Nikon D700 and a V1. Nowadays, they are a Z6 and a Z7. Depending on the weight I can carry or the intention of the outing (birds, landscapes) I take the zoom lenses 24-70 and 70-200 f/2,8, or just prime lenses 28, 35, 50, 105 Micro, ... I only take the tripod if I go by car. A cleaning Kit is indispensable. I hardly ever use filters or flashFeedback
We all know the usual advise on time of the day etc. I would only say, look for whatever you want to get, but take the chance and take what destiny offers you.
