Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot looking north from Ottawa to Gatineau through the old abandon Price of Wales bridge that connects Ontario to Quebec. The bridge actually has two spans that connects via Lemieux Island which is also home to Ottawa Water Purification Plant that supplies the city water needs.

Time

The photo was taken late afternoon as indicated by the long shadows, actual time was 5:30 pm on the 30th of May 2016.

Lighting

The lighting was supplied by mother nature, a beautiful spring day that she was delighted to share with us.

Equipment

Believe it or not, this photo was captured with a Samsung Galaxy S5 cellphone and was cropped out of a larger portrait photo and slightly edited with just Apple Photo software.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this picture was to try and capture some of the bridge earlier fame and glory that had gone unnoticed for so many years. It's a shame how these iconic steel structure of our ancestors days of glory have been left abandon but luckily for us the amateur photographers they provide a great subject to capture and preserve.

Editing

As mentioned earlier, the only post-processing done to this particular photo was limited and done with Apple Photo software.

In my camera bag

As of lately I've also taken up drone photography with a DJI Mavic Pro which has opened up a whole new world to me to explore, that's a story for another day. Four years ago after purchasing my iPhone 7plus I have basically given up using my other camera's, three in total to focus on my iPhone photography skills. It started as an experiment, to see how they compared to each other. But, the short coming of a smartphone camera was out-weighted by the all in one conveniency, from photo conception, post editing to social media uploading. I have been converted and I'm looking forward to purchasing the soon to be released iPhone 12 Pro Max in the coming weeks.

Feedback

The smartphone camera's have blurred the lines between DSLR with their ease of use and improved photo quality, the old saying is still as true as ever "the camera you have with you is the best camera". Who doesn't always have their phone with them, case closed.
