Out in the Pecan Grove, there has been an increase in the number of Red Ant Colony mounds. When I say 'mounds' they're really more like wide, flat tortillas of completely removed grass, rocks, twigs and leaves in an area of about a meter to a meter and a half. Then, there's the ants, themselves. As the day warms up, they become much more active and faster. This image is early in the morning (07:48am) and it's still kind of cool out. Even so, every ten seconds or so, I had to stop to brush about a dozen Red Ant Scouts biting or climbing on my hiking boots while I'm snapping. These ones actually hurt when they bite. I caught this one all by himself (relatively) and in nice sharp focus (they do move fast and low light means slower shutter speeds.) Enjoy.
