During a recent walkabout, my friend and I passed by the ruins of an old home along the 89a in Northern Arizona. We explored the area and came across a marker explaining the back story to the "Blanche Russel" house. It is an amazing example of how strong the human spirit is, as well as the emotion of love. This home was built back in the 1920's when Blanche, and her husband Bill, broke down along the 89a. This was a much more desolate area than it is today, and instead of giving up, Blanche Russel began building this home out of what the area provided. I wanted to capture a feeling of struggle, wonder, and strength with this black and white image, and I hope that I have done just that.
