I took this photo in Tempe, Arizona.Time
This was at about 5:00pm.Lighting
This was taken under natural lighting conditins.Equipment
I used a Nikon d7100 with a 55-200mm zoom, handheld.Inspiration
Honestly, this was completely impromptu. I was doing a photo shoot for a local singer/songwriter. We heard the train bells and the subject said “Awesome, let’s get a photo i front of the train.” I wanted to get the sense of motion in the photo for a more dramatic effect so i dropped the shutter speed and told him to hold as still as he could. Luck totally played a part in this shot, lol!Editing
Yes, I used Adobe photoshop. I adjusted the color tones and manually converted to a grey scale, added some clarity and some dodging and burning to accentuate the darks and lights. It was a pretty good shot right of out camera so it didn’t take much in post to make it pop.In my camera bag
I typically carry my Nikon d7100 and a backup d3200. I always have my 35mm prime and my 55-200mm Nikon Nikkor lenses, a graduated filter, circular polarizer, remote camera trigger, spare batteries and cleaning supplies.Feedback
Get used to shooting objects in motion. I focus mainly on automotive photography which requires a steady hand and knowledge manual mode and shutter mode. That definitely helped me nail this shot. Also, know your best zoom lengths for portrait photography.
