Location
I have found the summer months in Hawaii the most colorful for sunrise and sunset pictures, thou at anytime you can get great shots. This July, Kihie, Maui shot with the island of Lanai in the distance was just a simple walk down to the beach from my daughter's home. I feel lucky in winning this challenge as looking thru the other entries, found others I think deserving as well.Time
This sunset was another good anticipation shot. Watching the late afternoon clouds build in the west and the high humidity drove me down to the beach to watch the sunset develop into the picture which is captured here.Lighting
Have to give credit to God for his beautiful lighting, as all of it was his work. All I had to do was stroll down to the beach and enjoy!Equipment
The camera for this shot of the Maui sunset was my current trusty Sony A77. The lens on the camera when I took this pictures was a Sony 70-300 mm. I usually have my monopod always attached to my camera but it was not used in the shot.Inspiration
Where ever I go I am inspired easily, find diversity and great detail in almost everything. It is just a matter of capturing it correctly. But, I would say this, "You do have to take the effort, you have to place yourself in a position to take the shot." "Study your subject and just not hope for luck!"Editing
I do post process a lot and this photo was brought into Corel Paintshop Pro and add-on tools, Topas Labs. The Adjust tool for Topaz Labs was used just so slightly to enhance.In my camera bag
My backpack camera bag has at least three lens in it at all times. My favorite portrait Sony F1.4 50mm lens, a 70-300 mm Sony Macro lens and usually a fisheye lens, with at least 6 protective/filter lens. I always have more than 4 extra batteries, cleaning fluid and wipes, rags, flash, writing pad and pen and sometimes mounted on the top of the backpack is my tripod.Feedback
I will give one tip here. For all those beach combers and beach lovers, clean your lens often. It is remarkable how the littlest of spray is picked up on your lens as you enjoy such beauty.
