The Seals are quite good at blending in and I was taking pictures of the surf when I turned around and saw this! I clicked and shot and moved away quickly so not to antagonise them.
Note, in November another quake struck the Kaikoura coast and it has changed dramatically. I wonder if (and when the road is open again) the seals will still be lazing on the shore. https:--assets.stuff.co.nz-interactives-special-features-the-mountains-moved-index.html
