Behind The Lens

Location

I made this image with Eloise in a small room at my home. I love to experiment with lighting setups and for this I used speed lights in soft boxes from behind at either side for the edge lighting and a beauty dish above and from the front for the fill. The background is simply a white wall with the fall off from the lights giving it some value.

Time

Shot in the afternoon.

Lighting

The lighting is a three point setup but with a beauty element too

Equipment

I shoot predominantly with a Canon 5D MKII and a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens.

Inspiration

This was one of my first attempts at shooting a three point lighting setup. I've been very much inspired by the work of Joel grimes and wanted to try it out for myself.

Editing

Photoshop is my world! I love processing images although this one was fairly straightforward. Dodge and Burn.....Frequency Separation for the skin work and a little sharpening.

In my camera bag

Honestly I carry a Canon 5D MKII, Sigma 70-200, Canon 50 1.8 and a Canon 17-40. I light with a handful of speed lights of differing brands and a Godox AD360

Feedback

The three point lighting setup is the key to this image. The fill light from the front has a stronger value than I would usually use in such a set up and maybe that's the difference here :)
