Behind The Lens

Location

This is taken after the sun had set on St. Kilda beach in Melbourne, Australia. A couple walks their dog silhouetted against a dusk sky with masts from the boats at St. Kilda Yacht Club in the background

Time

About 9pm on a summer's evening after some beers with friends overlooking the bay

Lighting

All natural lighting!! Nature pretty much took care of the lighting in this shot!!

Equipment

Shot on a Nikon D90 with stock standard 18-105 lens, my first DSLR! No other equipment was used

Inspiration

Sunsets and the colours they make in the sky are always attracting me - this was lucky that something in the foreground could nicely be silhouetted against the evening sky

Editing

Very little post-processing, apart to enhance the blacks to obtain stronger silhouetting

In my camera bag

At the moment I have a Nikon D90 with 18-300 mm and 50 mm lenses

Feedback

I think patience is the most important advice!! Finding a scene that looks appealing, and sitting and waiting for the light, movement in the foreground, and any other factors to 'feel' right. It can take a lot of waiting!!
