Location
This was taken from near "The View" campsite at Monument Valley - just out of shot down the hill is my tent that I had to sprint to as the storm broke all around and the rain poured down!Time
This was after sunset (directly behind), and the day had been a stinking hot 40+ degrees celsius. After hiking and travelling a bit around the area, it became obvious there was a storm brewing, which finally broke in the early eveningLighting
There is an orange light from the sunsetting behind the the photo, and then the light from the lightning crackling around the thunder clouds is a great contrastEquipment
This was with a Nikon D90 and 18-300 mm lens - it was a long exposure/small aperture shot to ensure the best chance of actually capturing the lightning. The tripod was definitely required for the longer exposure!Inspiration
It is impossible not to be inspired by such incredible weather at such an iconic location!!Editing
A mall amount of sharpening, as well as brightening the shadowed areas somewhatIn my camera bag
I normally have a Nikon D90 with a 18-300 mm all-purpose lens, and a 50 mm 1.8f lens, and a Sherpa tripodFeedback
Definitely with the thunderstorm, I recommend a tripod, as well as long exposure and small apertures for clarity, and a greater chance of capturing the lightning in frame
