The Venеtian Harbour of Rethymno.

The story of the shot:
Photographers are strange creatures. You think that the more pictures you take, the better they will be, but things don't work out that way.

Yesterday I decided to delve into the archives and found this shot (and the rest from the same series). These were taken back in 2009 when it didn't even cross my mind that you'll become a photographer one day.

It turns out that - if you look at the shots from that period, contrary to my opinion, even then I had some good things. At least the weather was a photographer's dream.

The Place:
Crete was under Venetian domination for over 200 years and Rethymno and (the neighbouring bigger town of Chania) show that influence. Venetians they didn't do a lot of good deeds for the Cretans - except to cut down all trees on the island to build ships... Architecture, however, remained - and it is very photogenic. In Rethymno you see and a lot of Turkish and Arab influence as well - because the island was under the power and these two peoples. The town is known, however, with these houses in Venetian style.

If you happen to visit it - do go to the fortress (Fortezza) - the view is stunning.

I'll post more images from the archives soon :) as well as the whole story (you know, another travelogue).
