The church-monument in Shipka village, Central Bulgaria. It was built in memory of the fallen soldiers in the Turko-Russian war of 1877-1878 (known in Bulgaria as 'The Liberation War'). The construction took almost 30 years (the church was used for the first time in 1902) and the building and the surrounding area was Russian property up till 1936 when it was given to the Bulgarian state.
Today it is a functioning temple - you can go in, light a candle and pray. Taking pictures inside is allowed but you have to pay - its 3 BGN. However, if you ask me - just put the camera away while inside. Somehow it's not very respectful inside the church.
