Location
This photo was taken out in the country in a remote area. Coming across something historical like this doesn't happen to often, so I had to get a shot of it.Time
I took this photo on an mostly overcast and brisk spring day. The trees were beginning to bud and the grass was starting to green up.Lighting
The overcast day helped to bring out some of the details of the old church that otherwise might have been lost if it had been a sunny day.Equipment
For the shot, I handheld my Sony a6000 using the standard 3.5-5.6/16-50 lens. I love using this lens for my building shots.Inspiration
I'm always on the lookout for unique and/or historical building to photograph and this one fit the bill. Who knows how long this church will last before it wastes away and no one will remember it.Editing
I did do some slight color enhancement and sharpening in post using Lightroom before exporting the finished shot.In my camera bag
I normally keep my Sony a6000 with the kit lens in my bag along with a few extra batteries, wireless remote and tripod. I've recently added a new wide angle lens to my bag to use with my landscape shots. My bag is ready to go at a moment's notice and whenever I leave the house, I have it with me. You never know what you might see.Feedback
My advice for trying to capture a similar photo is this: Always keep your camera with you as you never know when you may run into and interesting scene that you want to photograph. Don't be afraid to take some back roads, a lot of times you'll find something interesting that no one knew was there. You may also do some research and find out where these old buildings may be. Also, don't let a cloudy or overcast day keep you in....a lot of times that works to your advantage with lighting.
