Behind The Lens

Location

This is the millennium bridge on the the Tyne newcastle / gateshead quayside. There is a spot on the quayside where you can stand and all the bridges on the tyne line up. Also this bridge opens at certain times to let boats through. This was a long exposure to show the bridge slowly opening. When it opens it winks .

Time

This was taken just after sunset around 9PM when it's dark and the all the quayside lights come on for all the bridges and the surrounding areas.

Lighting

The river was still enough to get a great reflection. I love a great reflection and try to use the tide times for when the river will be still enough for a reflection.

Equipment

I used a manfrotto tripod with a nikon D7200 and my kit lens 18-55mm . No flash

Inspiration

Being local to this area I have a few photographer friends who frequently visit the Newcastle quayside . So there is always a new image to take whatever the weather conditions.

Editing

Very little post processing I lift the shadows and add sl.e clarity usually.

In my camera bag

I carry all my lenses in my bag usually except my 150-500mm sigma. I have D7200 with 18-140mm and 70-300mm with a sigma 10-20mm and a 35mm prime. Cable release and various filters. I use a ND10 usually for long exposure.

Feedback

Make sure you have a good set up. Steady tripod and cable release. Turn any image stabilisation off in lens. To focus use your live view mode and zoom in on your subject. Use manual focus if need be. If your after similar reflections then it's best to look out for high tide times as that's best depending on wind .
