Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my studio which offers 100s of dress up choices, this little one had just finished a vintage look when she spotted "the butterfly shoes". She had to prepare for the ball, and making sure her shoes fit perfectly was a must.

Time

This was a studio lit shot

Lighting

The lighting was pretty even

Equipment

The Canon 7d, The lens was the 50 prime, no tripod, I use alien bees with a large soft box and shot on a green screen

Inspiration

This little one has a big imagination and love playing whatever scene we can get into.

Editing

The image was shoot on a green screen, so post process begins with background removal, then I choose which digital background along with effects, sizing, color adjustments, additional elements, like sparkles and stuff. All put together in Photoshop layers.

In my camera bag

Canon 7d mark ii, speed light flash, Sigma art lens 50, call wide-angle, and a zoom lens, extra cards a battery charger and the lens cloth

Feedback

My biggest thing is to get engaged with the kids, get at their level, get them comfortable with you. I have people comment on my photos "great candid shot, or is she a professional model, I tell them no she's four, and the photos are posing techniques - for example if you tell a child to spin or turn they almost always hold their arms out like they are flying, if I tell them to hold their dress like a princess the photos come out looking much more controled and elegant.
