Behind The Lens

Location
I took this photo last summer in an abandoned castle near Catania's beach in Sicily while waiting for the right time and light to take photos at the beach
Time
In the afternoon, about 4pm
Lighting
I used only the available natural light; I just asked the model to look at me coming out of the window
Equipment
I used my Fuji XPRO2 with the XF56APD 1,2 at f2; I decided not to fully open it because I wanted both eyes in focus and the foreground and background out of focus; at 1,2 probably some parts of the model would have been out of focus
Inspiration
I was there with 2 other photographers friends of mine and we saw this abandoned castle near the beach with ruins and a lot of interesting spot for taking photos; I was changing the lens on my camera while the other photographers used the window as a frame taking frontal pictures of the model; when I was ready coming from one side I first took the photo with my eyes, realizing that it would have been a nice take from there, so I asked the model to stay a little in and a little out of the window to emphasize the sense of drama and waiting, then I click, just one click, it was enough
Editing
The raw file was almost perfect so I didn't do complicate post-processing, just some adjustments in Lightroom and black and white conversion using my personal Silver Effex Pro preset to have it with my style;t he place where I took the photo was dirty so I spent some time to remove the dust from the fingers of the model; I also did a color version but I prefer the B&W version
In my camera bag
For my portrait and glamour shootings I use a Fuji XPRO2 with XF35 2, XF56APD 1,2 and XF90 2; in my bag I also have a flash (Nissin i40), trigger Cactus v6 II, magmod sphere and a light reflector
Feedback
I always first take my photos with my eyes; before clicking I check if the image is perfect for my eyes, if not I make some changes in the pose of the model or I move to another position to have the best angle; I started to photograph in the analogical era when every single click was important and also expensive....
