Location
This was taken at Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Lake Banook is a world-class venue for canoe and kayak championships, and has hosted several international events over the years.Time
Some time in the afternoon, in late August.Lighting
Not really, it was a sun-mixed-with-cloud kind of day.Equipment
The image was captured with a Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 IS II on a Canon EOS 6D body, f6.3, ISO 250.Inspiration
I wanted more experience taking photos of sporting events, and knowing there was a regatta that weekend, I knew it would be a good place to get some decent sports action shots.Editing
I use Lightroom 6. Speaking generally because honestly, this picture was taken a couple years ago and I can't remember exactly what I did with it, but I tend to slide the Shadows slider to the right to see what detail might be hiding in the shadows, and sometimes slide the Highlights to the left which can give you a rather cool look. I always bring up the Clarity, and like to enhance color a bit with the Vibrance or Saturation slider, but not so much as to make it look garish. I will adjust contrast if necessary. In my camera bag
Usually two bodies - I replaced the 6D body with the 5D Mark IV a year or so ago. My other body is an EOS 80D. If I am going out looking for good landscapes I will usually have an EF 24-105 f4L IS II with me, and an EF 100-400 which is a great lens. If I know I will probably be getting some wildlife shots, e.g. I get out a few times in the winter to get shots of Bald Eagles that gather about an hour's drive away, I will take along a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. I usually have a flash as well, and an extra memory card. For street photography, I will replace the !00-400, with the lighter, EF 70-300.Feedback
Set your dial to TV, and the shutter speed to 1/500 sec., especially if you're shooting hand held, as I was here, and go for it. And have FUN....for me photography is a huge joy.
