This old road continued on past my maternal grandparent's home and when we kids could, we'd sneak off and see how far we could walk down it's curves with the huge (to us it seemed at the time) tree-lined embankments on either side of us. Even in broad daylight it was very spooky to us! We never got past the next bend in the road because the banks got much higher and it just felt like we were going deeper and deeper toward something, or someone, unknown....so we'd creep ourselves out, lose our nerve and run as fast as we could back up the road toward the safety of grandmas. ...NOTHING, not even Eli, could touch us once we could see her house. ...
