Behind The Lens

Location

This is one of the dutch doors of one of the oldest barns in our county and situated on the highest ground. It is owned by our friends who invited me out to capture some images of it for them.

Time

This is one of my most favorite images I captured that day around 1PM. It was a very blustery Spring day and I remember my hair kept blowing in front of my lens.

Lighting

The day was overcast with an unimaginative sky but the light was perfect for me.

Equipment

I believe this was taken with a Fuji FinePix point and shoot. No tripod, no special lens. Just hand held.

Inspiration

I enjoy preserving any old structures such as houses and barns, corncribs, sheds, schools and churches with my camera. Preserving them for those with a sense of history who will come after us and be able to see and enjoy my images is my goal.

Editing

I love to process many of my images to look almost painterly. I was an artist and a painter before I ever picked up a camera. Once I began getting beautiful images of the countryside I had a longing to paint many of my favorites. I then discovered that I was able to clarify and saturate some of the scenes which pleased my inner artist. I use various programs that now allow me to get the desired level of painted look.

In my camera bag

I travel very light. Usually two cameras, one extra lens, several SD cards, batteries. I almost never use a tripod as I am too impatient and do not want to carry it with me while walking.

Feedback

I have no advice for capturing a close up architectural shot such as this except to avoid shooting in harsh sunlight.
