I was walking down a local river, as I daily did in that period of my life.Time
If was between 1 pm and 2pm. I was not one of the happier period of my life. So I usually spent my lunch break walking alone down a local river, trying to find things to photograph. In the same period I found lots of things to photograph. Like insects and animals. And even some low flying airplane.Lighting
This is just natural light. The sun was high and there were no shade.Equipment
This is just my old Canon EOS 500D/Rebel T1i/Kiss X3 with a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II. This was hand held. The exif for this particular shot are these: 250mm ƒ/11 1/250s ISO 640. There were no filter or protection on the lens. Just me, my camera and lens, and the river.Inspiration
I was just walking up and down the river searching for interesting subject. It was early fall, so the colors were turning from green to brown/red/yellow. What inspired my when i spot this particular leave in the water was that everyting was still. A dead leave lied on the perfectly still water. That reminds me of ancient Viking funeral, where a boat is put on fire. So I took this shot.Editing
Yes, there is some post simple processing. First of all I had to get rid of some dirt in the water. The real water was not so clean smooth. But few clicks with the patch tools and content aware fill where enough. Then i saturated the colors in order to have yellows and reds to pop up.In my camera bag
Well, this depends on what I'm supposing to shot. If I just wander around I usually have a short lens (17-55 or something like that) and a zoom (70-300 in these days) When I have to go for a portrait, I usually have my 50 mm 1.8 and two flashes with various light modifiers. Nothing too complicated. Just umbrellas or softboxes.Feedback
This is rather a simple shot. But if you want an advice try to capture everthing that capture your attention. I'm a software engineer so I mainly trust science. But for photography I believe that it's not only a matter of what you capture, but even how you capture and what feelings you try to put on your work. We all see a lot of technically perfect photos here, but not all photos tell you something. This depends of the viewer's eye, so the same photo can tell nothing to one and be wonderful to another. But as a photographer, you should put yourself and your feelings in every photo you take. If you manage to do this, then many viewers will recognize that. It's not simple, and many times you don't manage to do that. But when you succeed, you will surely know. (I believe there are some mistakes in my English here and there. Hope you manage to understand me the same. :) )
