The Peterborough Lift Lock is a National Heritage Site in our City. Located on the Otonabee River and known as Lock 21 it is the World's highest hydraulic Lift Lock, designed to lift boats 65 Ft. It is part of the Trent-Severn Waterway managed by Parks Canada. The Lock operates on a Balance System. Water is let into the upper Chamber, a connecting valve is opened and the heavier chamber automatically descends, forcing the lower chamber to start a new cycle. It was built over a number of years and opened in July of 1904. I decided to use this POV but will post proper images of the entire lock in this series.
