I love Lilacs. They never last long enough - but their aroma in the air is a sure signal of Spring !

Location
This image was taken in my garden.Time
The lovely aroma of the Lilacs called out to me as I was enjoying this early, warm Spring day. You never know here in southern Ontario how warm the days will be in May. It was around 2 p.m. on May the 10th.Lighting
It was a bright day. I like to shoot Wide Open on my Macro lens but due to the full sun stopped it down to F/3.5Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel T1i with my Canon EF 100mm F2.8 Macro USM lens.Inspiration
I love Lilacs. The sheer joy of the early warmth of the day and the aroma of the Lilacs inspired me to take the image.Editing
My first adjustments are always basics: checking the light levels which I did adjust. I then used a few carefully placed soft pink overlays to give an overall soft and feminine appearance to the image. I used several Layers to accomplish this soft effect while editing in Photoshop CS6.In my camera bag
I always have a Canon Rebel Camera & usually go out with an intent in mind depending on the location where I am shooting. I would say 75% of the time I use my Canon EF100mm F2.8 Macro USM Lens as I love shooting the little miracles in our world whether it be flowers or insects. I try not to pack too heavy. Many times I will have my Macro lens on my camera but will have back up lenses in the car in case I change my mind. I also have a Canon EF200mm f/2.8 USM, and an EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM. I always carry an extra battery, memory card, Canon 430 EX11 Flash and extra lens covers when possible.Feedback
For this type of image it basically comes down to paying attention to the Season and being aware what flowers will be in bloom at the time. If you cannot find what you are looking for in your own backyard, hopefully you have access to nearby Parks or Flower Gardens & Nurseries where there usually is a multitude of flowers during the year. I find being out in Nature and experiencing the many aromas and 'gifts' of the Seasons to be very rewarding and therapeutic.
