Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at an abandoned cement factory. There were several standing buildings and ruins of what used to be. The property was spread out among several acres. In spots it looked like a set from a movie where an apocalyptic event occurred - metal shards, boulders, cement blocks, glass, steel beams and bricks made for some tough traversing and climbing. I love adventure so it was well worth it!

Time

We arrived early in the morning since we knew we had a lot of property to cover. By the time we made it to the underground basement it was early afternoon.

Lighting

I wanted the image to possess the mysterious and dark mood that was felt exploring there and the edit to this image captured what that mood felt like in that dark and damp basement. Eerie.

Equipment

I took this picture with my Samsung S7. Hard to believe!? I used the filter from an app I downloaded to my phone.

Inspiration

I love to capture the essence of the places I visit. I want to take the viewer in and share the emotion or mood. I love how this photo captures high contrasts of light and dark on this iron and steel stairway.

Editing

I changed this photo to high contrast black and white and added my profile name.

In my camera bag

I don't carry my camera bag with me. I usually have my Nikon D60 around my neck and carry my cell phone in my pocket. I make sure my bag has a spare camera battery - there is nothing worse than taking so many pictures your battery dies, bug spray, a head light and some Altoids.

Feedback

I have no formal training on photography. I just shoot what I feel....which everything I see to me is a photo op. Take as many pictures as you want and don't ever think they are not good enough, for the one you dislike could be that one shot that someone loves. Happy Photos!
